Memorial Day Parade

Once again this year our Pack will participate in the annual Memorial Day Parade through the town of Rockford to remember those who served our country.  Scouts wanting to march in the parade should be in uniform and meet at 9:30 in the parking lot across from the Middle School

The next major Pack event will be Rockford River Days in early August.  There the cubs will participate in the cub-mobile races (Saturday morning…see your den leader for car specs) and the River Days Parade on Sunday.

Have a great summer!

Get out your blankets & bug spray for the May Pack meeting!

May 5th, 2008

It’s been a fun winter at Pack 490…and now with spring in the air, what better way to kick-off the summer than with a picnic in the park!   Yes, our May Pack meeting will be held on Sunday, May 18th at 1:00 PM in Lions Park.  All ranks will be graduated to their next level and each boy will receive his book for the next level.  We will also have a Flag Retirement Ceremony (how to properly dispose of an old flag) and games for the boys.   Bring the whole family for hot dogs, chips and drinks in the park!

Pack 490 Collects 568 Pounds of Food!

April 26th, 2008

Thanks to all who donated and helped with food collection and sorting.  We collected 568 pounds of food for the Hanover Food Shelf.  All together, local Packs in the area collected over 7,000 pounds of food for Hanover, up over 800 pounds from last year (in a year where they thought donations might be down due to the economy!).

Special thanks to the folks at the Rockford Fire Department for allowing use of the firehall for food collection!  Don’t forget to return the favor and attend their Pan Cake Breakfast, next Sunday, May 4th from 7:00 AM to Noon!

Great job scouts!!

Scouting for Food - April 26th

March 31st, 2008

Get prepared to help your community!  Scouting for Food is a great volunteer opportunity for our scouts to collect food for local area food shelves.  Special plastic bags will be distributed to scouts in April….these bags should be distributed between April 19th and 21st.  They can either be given to the homeowner or left on the door knob (please do not leave them in mailboxes).  The bags include instructions to the homeowner to place non-perishible food in the bag and leave it on their door step (if they are interested in donating).  On the morning of April 26th, the scouts go past the houses where they left bags…picking up the bags left on the door steps.  The food will be turned in at the Pack drop-off point (Rockford Fire Department - 10:30 to noon) and someone from the Pack will have it weighed and taken to the local food shelf in Hanover.
